Mine Storage International (MSI) has received an invitation from the International Hydropower Association (IHA) to join as a partner of the International Forum of Pumped Storage Hydropower. IHA shares Mine Storage vision of raising awareness on pumped storage with governments and policy makers.
To address the urgent worldwide need for clean and reliable energy storage, IHA has partnered with U.S. Department of Energy to co-host the International Forum on Pumped Storage Hydropower, a government-led platform to enhance and shape the role of pumped storage hydropower in future power systems.
-This is a great initiative, and now we are part of developing the global agenda for pumped hydropower. We represent a mature and scalable solution that is a real enabler of a sustainable future, says Thomas Johansson, CEO at Mine Storage International.
This new global initiative is led by a Steering Committee of senior government representatives from Austria, Brazil, Estonia, Greece, India, Indonesia, Morocco, Norway, Switzerland and the United States.
In addition, international financial institutions such as the World Bank, European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), African Development Bank (AfDB), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), as well as intergovernmental organisations including the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) are part of the Steering Committee.
MSI will attend the Forum’s first meeting on 3 November 2020 and contribute to the Forum’s work programme covering ‘Market and Policy Frameworks’, ‘Capabilities, Costs and Innovation’, and ‘Sustainability’, which is scheduled to run until September 2021.
