The Swedish energy storage company Mine Storage is growing its team with another expert. Maria Säfström, current Head of Sustainability at Svenska Kraftnät, the Swedish transmission system operator, has accepted the role of Head of Environment and Permitting and will join Mine Storage in February 2023. Her broad experience from sustainability and environmental issues will be crucial for the project development work of Mine Storage's energy storage facilities.
Maria has a unique profile by having worked with environmental issues from three different perspectives – county administrative boards, the environmental consulting company Golder as well as Ihus and Svenska Kraftnät (SvK). With her broad experience from many industries and senior leadership roles, she will be able to strongly contribute to an even faster development and progress for Mine Storage, says Thomas Johansson, CEO at Mine Storage.
Maria, who has worked with ESG issues with a focus on environmental issues for 20 years, has a broad industry experience. Before her current role at SvK, Maria handled environmental and sustainability issues in the property industry, including as CEO at Ihus. She has also held senior roles in the environmental consulting world and handled permit issues as an environmental officer at the County Administrative Board.
Maria will be responsible for building processes for, and driving the environmental permit work which is a large and important part of the project development when building a portfolio of mine storage facilities.
This is really exciting. The need for different types of energy storage is huge. There are so many advantages to using pumped storage, both from an environmental and technical perspective, and I really think Mine Storage has a fantastic idea here. It’s also an added bonus to join the company in this early stage and to get the opportunity to be involved in building the business almost from the beginning, says Maria Säfström.
